“Dennis Hall’s March Newsletter”
“In Memory of Cindy Horn, We Will Miss You”
Hey Friends, as I begin this month’s newsletter I am reminded of the words Jesus spoke in Matthew 9:36-38, “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
To be a laborer for the Lord’s kingdom you must be as our Lord, moved with compassion. Compassion is investing whatever is necessary to heal the hurts of others, responding to a deep need with a longing to do whatever is necessary to meet it. There are many of us who are empathic and feel sympathy. Sympathy is feeling sorry for people who are lost and hurting. Empathy is feeling their pain, but compassion is doing something about it! I am amazed not only at myself, but many of the people who ask me to pray that the Lord will open up some kind of ministry for them, then as soon as I call them with a desperate situation, they have ever excess under the sun why they can’t do it. It’ been my experience, as little as that is, that the Lord will send us all the ministry we can handle, but usually it doesn’t pay enough, or it will cost us something. We say we trust the Lord, but then when He gives us an opportunity to be a blessing to Him, and someone He has brought into our lives, we come up with every excuse under the sun. I just can afford it, or I just don’t have the time, in other words, it wasn’t the ministry ( I )wanted. I have missed the biggest blessings in my life having this kind of attitude. God not only gives us these opportunities, He has promised an enormous blessing to those who will accept these opportunities with a joyful heart, and a gracious attitude, as doing it unto the Lord Himself! We desperately need labors for the kingdom, labors doing the work in the trenches where you are going to get dirty.
The Lord Jesus has really been dealing with me about this issue in my own life. You see, for years I prayed and cried out unto the Lord, that He use me mightily in His kingdom, I spent all my time in prison studying His Word, ministering, and surrendering to Him that His light might shine brightly through me wherever He planted me, to bloom where I was planted. I spent all my time preparing for whatever He had for me, wherever He had it. Now this cry is being answered in miraculous ways that only Jesus could put together. But sometimes it has been dirty and painful; cost me more of myself than I ever expected, and all of my time. It has taken my money many times, which isn’t much anyway. I have run my little pick up all over the state of Oklahoma, had it crammed full, it’s a small size Ford Ranger with kids fold out seats in the back, and I have had 4 grown men stuffed in there getting us to recovery and church, just to drop them off so I could go and pick up some more, (by the way we need a van desperately). I have questioned myself as to whether I truly did count the cost, I have laid on my face in tears from being so weary murmuring to the Lord, then the Holy Spirit would whisper in my ear, Dennis I’m only giving you what you asked for, remember Jesus, He had nowhere to lay His head, the Son of God did not come to be ministered to, but to serve and lay down His life for many. And besides all that, I thought you had given Me your time, money, and pick-up, your lasting rewards are in heaven so be grateful and rejoice. How many times do we give all we have to God then when He wants to use it we won’t budge, friends when you have this kind of attitude He won’t make you, but you are missing the biggest blessings you can ever imagine, I am grateful that He is teaching me this lesson. It’s our loss!
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it (Matthew 16:24-25). This was all I needed to hear, my expectations are back on Jesus as I have gotten my eyes back on the cross and my great debt to Him, spending quality time with the Lord Jesus daily. You cannot survive without spending daily quality time with Jesus. My worth to God publicly is measured by what I really am in my private time with Him. My goal in life is to please Him and love Him no matter the cost, this can only come from spending quality time with Him. Below is a list of what the Lord is doing through this ministry which many of you support. I only share these stories because many of you receiving this newsletter have labored with me in this harvest field. This is all to the honor and glory of Jesus Christ and His mighty power. We are what we are, by the grace of God Almighty, and His precious Son Jesus Christ!
Jail Ministry: We are doing even greater things in the jails now. Every Sunday we are showing Christian movies like Facing the Gaints, Fly Wheel, Fireproof, etc. We have completed several seminars for the “Anger Resolution and Basic Life Principles.” Thanks to F.L. Estes, Dave Horn, and the entire jail administration and sheriff’s department I am allowed full time access and the Word of God is being administered powerfully in the jails. I have been in jails and prisons all over the U.S., not as a preacher of the gospel, but as an outlaw. The Stephens county jail is the best system I have been in. It has with an outstanding and respectful staff, which cares tremendously about the inmates. The Lord Jesus lives in this jail and many lives are being transformed and saved from an eternal hell.
Steps of Christ Recovery: Julie Cook recently gave her touching testimony of how Jesus snatched her from the pit of hell. Lana Walker will be giving her testimony Tuesday, March 23rd,. My precious mother, Stella Duckworth will be giving her testimony in April. All these testimonies are, or will be, posted on my web site listed below. There’s a short bio about Lana, and already posted are: Nita Warren, Michelle Johnson, Guy Thurlo, Mark Pressgrove, Julie Cook, and lastly, Cindy Horn for whom this month’s newsletter is in memory of. The “Steps of Christ Recovery” has just blown me away, the Lord has moved there in a powerful way, and lives are being totally changed, (revived) REVIVAL! Come be encouraged and refreshed as we set at the feet of Jesus every Tuesday and Saturday, 7pm. (See Web site for more info). A special thank you to everyone who labors so hard to make this work, you know who you are.
Basic Life Principles Seminars: We are coming to a close for this season. Both the Gatlin Church and Couch Ranch seminars have touched folks in a deep way. It has been a long 19 sessions, but those who made it through have been touched deeply by our Lord and have a new fervency for Him, and a much deeper understanding of His principles. We will announce when another one will be available.
Finally I am so overwhelmed and thankful to my pastor, John Sherrill, and my church family at Gatlin Baptist, you guys never ceases to amaze me, the labor which comes from this small family is phenomenal. I am excited for all the great changes taking place and about the work Jesus is doing here. If you do not attend or belong to a church, come feel the love of Jesus and be encouraged and refreshed with the power of God’s Word. A special thank you to a fellow laborer who drove all the way from Chickasha to give a man a ride to OKC when I could not get lose. Thank all of you who do so much to make all of this possible. So many to thank that I can’t even begin in fear of leaving someone out. Everyone who supports this ministry financially I try to personally thank you, if you have donated and not received something personal from me please contact me. You are all prayed over daily!
